{"id":1585,"date":"2025-02-07T11:19:27","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T10:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/limburgdc.be\/?p=1585"},"modified":"2025-07-07T14:46:35","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T12:46:35","slug":"limburg-pioneers-circular-construction-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/limburgdc.be\/en\/limburg-pioneers-circular-construction-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Limburg pioneers circular Construction Campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On the initiative of the province of Limburg and POM Limburg, construction of Building Campus 2.0, an innovative and circular building that redefines the standard for sustainable construction in the sector, will start in 2025. The knowledge and meeting centre for the construction sector combines flexible design with innovative energy solutions. Completion is scheduled for 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Building Campus 2.0 shows how circular construction works in practice. The project brings together sustainability, innovation and cooperation and positions Limburg as a forerunner in the sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flexible and durable design<\/strong><br \/>\nThe new 5,500 m\u00b2 building on the site of the Diepenbeek campus Limburg DC will be designed in a fully modular and circular way. Wooden columns and beams form a structure that can be easily detached and reused. This makes the building flexibly adaptable to future needs without major renovations. The lifespan of the building is estimated at more than 100 years, with materials able to be given a new life after use.<\/p>\n<p>The architecture is a collaboration between Dutch Broekbakema and Limburg-based a2o architects. Vanhout from Geel and construction company Dethier from Alken are in charge of execution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy-positive and innovative<\/strong><br \/>\nBuilding Campus 2.0 goes beyond energy-efficient: the building will generate more energy than it consumes, making it energy-positive. This is made possible by integrated solar panels in the facade and canopies, an innovative air treatment system that uses natural energy sources, a compact design and a thoughtful facade system that minimises energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>The technical innovations are not only functional, but also visible. Climate cores and solar installations are part of the design and show how technology and architecture go hand in hand. The entire building has been digitally designed in BIM (<em>Building Information Model<\/em>) designed. This also allows the impact of design choices to be tested technically at lightning speed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Space for collaboration and research<\/strong><br \/>\nBesides office spaces for partners such as Embuild, Inter and DUBO, Construction Campus 2.0 offers a central meeting area, flexible workplaces and an auditorium. The meeting area is visible from the facade, giving the building an open and lively feel.<\/p>\n<p>An important part of the building is an extension of UHasselt's concrete application centre. The new 1,100 m\u00b2 laboratory will focus on research into circular building materials and provide additional opportunities for innovation in the sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Water neutral<\/strong><br \/>\nWater plays an important role on the site and in the wider environment. The ambition is not only to be water-neutral, but more ambitiously to go 'water-positive'. In addition, care will be taken to ensure that nature and soil are disturbed as little as possible: no new basement structures will be constructed, construction will take place on surfaces that have already been disturbed, and all soil will remain on site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planning and financing<\/strong><br \/>\nConstruction work will start in late 2025 and the building will be commissioned in 2027.
