In the presence of Deputy Tom Vandeput and Mayor Rik Kriekels, the first car drove into the brand-new car park. This ensures free parking for campus visitors and students even before the start of the academic year. The car park has room for 350 cars, but can later be extended to 500 spaces. The development was done in height, largely on the existing car park, minimising the impact on green space. The structure was commissioned by the Limburg provincial government and Limburg DC, executed by POM Limburg.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bouwcampus 2.0, a joint project of POM Limburg, Embuild Limburg and UHasselt, stands for bold experiments and groundbreaking ideas. \"The new parking building embodies this future-oriented approach,\" says Tom Vandeput, deputy for Economy and chairman of POM Limburg. \"The building is modular and can adapt to evolving needs in the future. What is also remarkable is the speed with which it was erected. The entire concrete structure was created in less than six months, resulting in a total lead time of only 10 months.\" This was made possible with the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM), a digital 3D model of the building, and the precast construction of concrete elements. The realisation of the car park was made possible partly thanks to provincial funding of EUR 6.8 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Circular future<\/strong><br \/>\nThe design of the parking building is the result of collaboration between Democo, Debuild and Jaspers-Eyers Architects. Tom Vandeput: \"Today, the car park can accommodate 350 cars, but with the possibility of adding an extra floor, that number can be significantly increased.\" The building is designed with higher ceilings than standard car parks and features a central ramp that can be removed if necessary. \"This way it retains its property value for longer. So the building does not have to be demolished over time but can be given a new use,\" says Tom Vandeput. By integrating solar panels and charging stations with a smart energy management system, the building is self-sufficient in energy and designed with energy efficiency in mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Car-free campus heart<\/strong><br \/>\nThe new parking building is an integral part of the strategy to make the campus heartland car-free. Tom Vandeput: \"We encourage students and campus residents to park their cars at the edge of campus and continue their journeys on foot or by bike.\" New walkways will connect the parking building to other parts of campus, including car-free routes to the Health Campus and the new Spartacus stop in the campus centre. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mayor of Diepenbeek Rik Kriekels is also particularly pleased with the new parking building. \"It offers a solution to the parking pressure there was for years on our campus. Moreover, by parking cars at the edge, the site can be made much more pleasant and green. An absolute added value.\"<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hub of innovation<\/strong><br \/>\n\"The Limburg construction sector has ambition,\" said Chris Slaets, managing director and director of Embuild Limburg. \"The Bouwcampus site will be even more future-proof, sustainable and accessible to all stakeholders with the opening of the parking building.
