{"id":1641,"date":"2022-09-08T11:46:43","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T09:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/limburgdc.be\/?p=1641"},"modified":"2025-05-30T10:06:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T08:06:09","slug":"health-care-incubator-in-diepenbeek-gets-brand-new-wing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/limburgdc.be\/en\/health-care-incubator-in-diepenbeek-gets-brand-new-wing\/","title":{"rendered":"Health &amp; care incubator in Diepenbeek gets brand new wing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>BioVille strengthens position in BioTech, MedTech &amp; Digital Health<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Diepenbeek - BioVille - the health &amp; care incubator on the university campus in Diepenbeek -, its shareholders - LRM, POM Limburg and UHasselt -, Flemish Minister of Economy, Innovation, Work, Social Economy &amp; Agriculture Jo Brouns and Deputy of Economy Tom Vandeput, officially announce the start of the construction of a new, third wing. The 2000m\u00b2 expansion, specifically aimed at scale-ups, should strengthen BioVille's position as a frontrunner in BioTech, MedTech and Digital Health. The new wing consists of three floors and aims to further expand the ecosystem with healthcare organisations and companies that will develop new applications for healthcare there. The new building will be ready for occupancy by summer 2023. The new wing requires a total investment of EUR 4,319,503.59. The funds come from ERDF, LRM and the province of Limburg.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Room for growth<\/strong><br \/>\nThe new wing at BioVille will further facilitate the acceleration of innovative care and additional developments in BioTech, MedTech and Digital Health. The focus is on growth companies in need of additional infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>With its new wing, the health &amp; care incubator responds to companies' demand for additional office space, lab space and meeting facilities. The user is central. Therefore, the floors will be delivered as shells so that each company can go for a customised layout according to its needs. The new wing will have a central reception and companies setting up there will be able to use BioVille's support services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Business district<\/strong><br \/>\n\"BioVille, already the economic beating heart of the site, wants to grow further into a dynamic business district, and this within the wider context of the Health Campus,\" says Tom Vanham, general manager of LRM. \"This brand new wing fits into that ambition. Additional spaces, laboratories and other facilities will be added in the future to bring not only startups and scale-ups, but also larger health &amp; care companies to the site. We are also reaching out to all actors from the healthcare sector to strengthen the existing ecosystem. Connections with imec and the academic world like UHasselt are already in place, and there is also a lot of interaction with the existing projects and initiatives of BioVille. There are still a lot of opportunities for collaboration or cross-fertilisation ahead that will only benefit this new project. BioVille is also part of the incubator network that LRM has developed with partners in Limburg.\"<\/p>\n<p><strong>ERDF project<\/strong><br \/>\n\"Over the past 10 years, Limburg has been strongly committed to expanding the Health &amp; Care sector,\" said Jo Brouns, Flemish minister for Economy, Innovation, Work, Social Economy and Agriculture. \"Innovation and growth are an absolute priority in this respect. BioVille has been facilitating acceleration in the healthcare sector for years and, with this new wing, offers the sector even more opportunities for training, research and development, production, living lab environments and internationalisation. In 2020, BioVille also opened the doors to the Digital Health House, another project created partly thanks to ERDF support. By continuing to renew and expand its facilities and offerings, BioVille is creating an ideal breeding ground for companies and organisations building the healthcare of tomorrow.\"<\/p>\n<p>\"POM Limburg has outlined an ambitious future plan for the university campus in 2021. The campus will be a crossroads of innovation, entrepreneurship and talent development,\" said Provincial Executive member for Economy Tom Vandeput, also chairman of NV Wetenschapspark Limburg. \"The Health Campus is an essential part of it. This campus will be a large-scale innovation and democracy centre for the healthcare of the future. Step by step, we will realise a strong ecosystem with innovative research projects, new infrastructure and space for innovative companies. These can establish themselves in a zone still to be developed behind Bioville or in the incubator itself. The third wing already provides an additional asset for companies active in the digitalisation of healthcare. From the province, we are therefore contributing 500,000 euros to the investment cost.\"<\/p>\n<p>The total investment amounts to 4,319,503.59 euros and is part of the ERDF project of further development of BioVille. Besides European support, the project is being realised with funds from LRM and the Province of Limburg. The environmental permit was delivered in 2021.
