Building 3 on Diepenbeek Campus makes way for Campus Boulevard
Boulevard becomes thoroughfare and atmospheric green public space
On Campus Diepenbeek, Building 3 must make way for the new Campus Boulevard. Demolition contractor Croes and engineering firm Steto will start the demolition of the flawed building today. They will complete the works in June.
Over the next few years, the education campus in Diepenbeek, which will in future be christened Limburg DC, will undergo a genuine transformation. Limburg DC will be a lively, sustainable, green campus based on the American model, where knowledge institutions, the business world and stakeholders can meet.
Car-free campus
A modal shift is underway at Diepenbeek Campus: the car has to give way for a part to create a car-free heart. At the campus edges, parking buildings welcome motorists. Expert Spatial Economy at POM Limburg Stijn Vercampt: "Internal cycling and walking paths connect nicely to the Campus Boulevard, the infrastructure axis on the site where priority is given to slow traffic and public transport." The 'Boulevard' connects north with south, but should also be qualitative and atmospheric. "It will be a thoroughfare, but also an attractive and green public space," stresses Stijn Vercampt.
Demolitions
To make way for the Boulevard at Limburg DC, Building 3 on the campus is now being demolished. The building had been suffering from defects for some time. For instance, it sometimes rained inside and there was occasional water in the basement. Demolition contractor Croes and engineering firm Steto will start the demolition of the building today. They will complete the works in June.
