Health Campus Limburg DC

With Health Campus Limburg DC, POM Limburg and UHasselt have the ambition to create a new lighthouse location for healthcare innovation, in Flanders and beyond.

In 2030, the Health Campus is a knowledge axis where companies, healthcare and welfare providers, research and education meet. Community building is at the heart of its operation. In this way, the campus promotes cooperation and entrepreneurship, innovation and implementation of scientific knowledge in practice.

High-rise building at Health Campus Limburg DC

The 40-metre-high cylindrical gatehouse of Health Campus Limburg DC will be more than just a gateway to the campus. As an open innovation centre, the gatehouse will provide a place where innovative research, the healthcare sector and business meet to shape the healthcare of the future. There will also be an auditorium with panoramic views over the entire site.

Adjacent to the tower will be a sustainable parking building where visitors can exchange their cars for bicycles or scooters. The building will also provide space for catering facilities and will be equipped with charging points for electric vehicles and solar panels, contributing to the campus' sustainable ambitions.

The realisation of the gatehouse, designed by the Paris-Ghent architectural consortium Muoto-Tab, will be carried out by contractors Vanderstraeten from Lummen and Cordeel from Temse. Construction is expected to take two years.

Life sciences ecosystem

Collaboration between research, healthcare sector, government and industry is crucial to tackle the challenges in healthcare. An ageing population, an increase in long-term care and staff shortages require thorough and sustainable innovation. This complex problem can only be tackled through collaboration, translating good ideas into practical applications in healthcare.

The open innovation centre is working on this translation. A strong ecosystem also stimulates the attraction of innovative companies, which have the opportunity to grow in the BioVille incubator or other business spaces on campus.

The total cost for the gateway is 41 million euros. The project is made possible with provincial support (13.7 million euros), support from LSM (2.5 million euros) and support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Flemish government (12.5 million euros).

ERDF project: Health Campus Limburg DC

Health Campus Limburg DC brings together healthcare institutions, companies and researchers to work on innovation in healthcare. The project strengthens cooperation within the healthcare sector and stimulates innovation. For its realisation, it will receive €12.8 million in support from the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
