Indian company ReproSci opens branch at Health Campus in Diepenbeek
This spring, India-based high-tech company ReproSci Biosciences will open a branch at the new Health Campus in Diepenbeek. This is the company's first expansion outside Asia. The company will initially employ 6 people there. The expansion is thanks to the efforts of POM Limburg and FIT India, the Indian branch of the Flemish export agency.
ReproSci Biosciences is a relatively young company specialising in fertility and reproductive healthcare. From its home base of Bangalore - India's third-largest city - it operates within the field of femtech, an emerging healthcare sector focused on women-centric solutions. According to forecasts, that sector will be worth some €55 billion in six years, with an annual growth rate of more than 16 per cent. Among other things, ReproSci developed the Fertilator, A virtual reality simulator focused on oocyte retrieval.
Efforts
ReproSci had had expansion plans for Europe for some time, and now explicitly chose the new Health Campus in Diepenbeek. This is mainly thanks to the efforts of Flemish export and investment agency Flanders Investment and Trade (FIT) India and POM Limburg. ReproSci was looking for a central base of operations for its international activities, and found it in Limburg. Vijaygopal Rengarajan, CEO of Reprosci: "We are happy to be part of the dynamic ecosystem of Health Campus Limburg DC. This collaboration with the university and nearby hospitals enables us to promote technological advances in medical education through simulation-based training. Together, we aim to revolutionise medical training so that healthcare professionals are better prepared and achieve better outcomes. This is an important milestone in ReproSci's growth and innovation journey, especially for our flagship product, the Fertilator, and beyond."
Ecosystem
The arrival of ReproSci fits perfectly within the ecosystem that POM Limburg is building on the Health Campus. Commissioner for Economy and chairman of POM Limburg Tom Vandeput: "Thanks to the established reputation of UHasselt in the field of biomedical sciences and the facilities of BioVille, another promising start-up found its way to Diepenbeek. The innovative environment of the campus and its growing ecosystem play a crucial role in this decision. As a femtech company, ReproSci complements that ecosystem nicely. Its arrival is yet another confirmation of the campus' position in Flanders and beyond."
Gender equality
FIT is also pleased with the Indian player's arrival. Spokesperson Desna Lespinoy: "ReproSci has done great things for women in India through their extensive research and knowledge in the field of life sciences. This makes them an excellent partner for Flanders, where, among other things, we are leaders in this field. FIT is excited to expand this important ecosystem by connecting two progressive players in this field. Women's healthcare research is of great importance, both medically and in terms of working towards gender equality worldwide. We look forward to their future achievements together."
